The 'sphere' (shown here in blue) is officially the first ever tetrahedral, manifold FE mesh structure/sculpture. White and Black (and other materials) are also available.
This is the first ever 3-D printed tetrahedral mesh. Meshing was performed in SciLab using my own code (based on DistMesh by Olaf Persson to give credit). The wire-frame (node-edge) tetrahedral mesh was then 'thickened' using an alpha-shape based method. Manifold structure was achieved and confirmed using Meshlab.
The most difficult problem was managing the 'semi-random' topology of the complex joints. It took me about a year to figure out a robust solution.
Note that this is shown in Blue SLS material, but it can be made in white, black, alumide or even bronze (although cost/effort is quite higher).
Please email me for the more advanced materials ([email protected]).
